In a day where it's always night
Slow me down to dream land
From a darkness that's always light
Slow me down to dreams
Refrain
Down, down, I long to go down
Under the water, far from the storms (take me)
Undertow, undertow, don't let me drown
Down where the echo of light transforms.
Turn the corners, shift the locks
Push me down to dream land
Separate the puzzlebox
Push me down to dreams
Run your fingers down the seams
Twist me round to dream land
Isolate the stuff of dreams
Twist me round to dreams
Bridge
Speak my name, change my name
Call your name, cry your name
Dream my name, dream your name
It all comes down to dreams
Tilt the lights and stop the clocks
Wake me when it's dream land
Now entering paradox
Wake me when it's dreams
This song started a long time ago, over a year ago, I think, and I kept coming back to it. It was originally called The Paradox Song, but a friend pointed out to me that there were really only one or two actual examples of paradox in the song at the time, and so I changed it when I made this revision in October, 2002. Where did it come from? It came from that feeling in between sleeping and waking, the place where the answers are all right there-- only you can never quite grasp them. It's about giving in to those places, letting yourself fall into dreams.
